Today we took the train to a neighboring city and enjoyed a delicious Vietnamese lunch, a movie ("Star Trek"--not my genre, but it was fairly good,) and dinner at Burger King. As Shane described it, it feels like our town in the countryside is in black and white, and visiting a larger area suddenly feels like the world is in full color!
It was an interesting week at work. Tuesday was Children's Day (holiday for us!), Wednesday was a school-wide festival (combination field day/carnival/picnic) and Thursday and Friday and although school was closed, after-school activities were held. Needless to say, we didn't have many students. Actually, it was a good thing, since Wednesday we received news that a Korean teacher was leaving her position with another site and one of our co-teachers was asked to replace her. So, I was sad to lose my wonderful co-teacher--we really were getting into a flow with the students and enjoyed teaching together. These changes also mean twice as much work for our remaining co-teacher, so there won't be as much free time to spend together outside of work.
My birthday is Monday, and prior to the news of last week, we made plans to meet up with our teacher friends for a delicious ori gogi (roasted duck meat) dinner. Celebrating our birthdays in Korea was fun last year--I expect this time will also be a blast!
Today we discovered that the automated ticket machines at the train station have English--we're looking forward to reserving tickets so we can be ensured seats (rather than standing) for longer trips. Hopefully we'll be able to see our friends from last year in a couple weeks!!
